Six reasons to put your hand up to be our newest Trustee
The Trust needs more women and men to be trustees, and here are six reasons why you would want to be one of them.
You have soft skills that the Dementia Trust needs. Communication skills are needed to support the work of the Trust. Especially if you love social media and know how to bring attention to a good cause, you would be ideal to help build the kind of communications that we can do. Help other people find out about how to challenge outdated ways of thinking about people affected by dementia. And do this while working with a great team.
You want to develop skills and gain new experience. What you have learned in your day job is needed! The current team includes people from nursing, medicine, the law, ministry, management consultancy, music…and so much more. People who know about being a carer for someone with dementia. What can you add to this mix?
Professional networking is so important in our working lives. By becoming a Trustee you would be mixing with a new set of people from different professional backgrounds. The work that the Trust does brings us into contact with a wide range of other people. Organising events, running a website, choosing projects to change dementia perceptions, and supporting those projects to come through with great ideas for change. You will meet interesting people who are dedicated to making things better for others by volunteering.
When you go for a job interview, you will often be asked about your experience of forming strategy. It’s so frustrating that you can’t get into strategic roles because you’ve not had a chance yet. Through volunteering as a Trustee for the Dementia Trust you can get strategic experience that will have a powerful impact on you, while you have a positive impact on other people.
You will be contributing to a powerful and long-established charity that has decades of experience of making lives better for people with dementia. Where else will you find such enrichment and a sense that you made a difference?
Last but not least, it makes you feel good!
