The Treasure We Seek Report.

A project to help people connect in later stages of dementia.

If you believe in the value of exploring ideas, perceptions, and assumptions about connecting with people living in the later stages of dementia, this is for you.

The Treasure We Seek Project created two online resources, one for the general public and another which highlights the importance of finding the best things in relationships with people who have advanced dementia.  It is called treasure because there are “gems” to be found, and the words and images we choose to use are essential for finding them.

Valuables

Valuables is an online resource that can be accessed here: https://thetreasureweseek.net/resource-1

This resource is for people who may not have previous experience of being with people with advanced dementia. This could include schools, community groups and dementia awareness organisations and any member of the public.   It explores the words & images we choose to use, and stories we tell can help these gems to be recognised and celebrated. It provides information and suggests activities and stories to highlight the importance of the connection between people with later stage dementia and their families and friends.

Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt can be accessed here: https://thetreasureweseek.net/resource-2

Designed for people who have a direct relationship with someone with dementia, whether professional or personal, it helps with preparing for an online visit, through an online platform such as Zoom or Skype.  So many family members and carers live far away, and even those who are able to visit in person may be in touch online before or after the visit.
