A special afternoon of music in Fife

Last month, Trustees Rev Nigel Robb and Suzanne Williamson were delighted to attend the culmination of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's Music and Dementia programme in Fife, a special Dementia Friendly Concert held at Rothes Hall, made possible in part through funding from the Dementia Trust. 

More than 100 people from across Fife attended the concert. From the moment people arrived, there was a wonderful atmosphere of warmth, friendship and anticipation for the performance that would soon follow.

The musicians opened the concert in unforgettable fashion, moving among the audience as they performed Ravel's Boléro. This immediately broke down the barrier between performers and audience, creating a shared musical experience that continued throughout the afternoon. 

It was impossible not to notice the effect the music had on those present. Familiar songs prompted smiles of recognition, hands tapped along to the rhythm, people clapped enthusiastically, and many quietly sang along. As the afternoon progressed, some audience members even felt inspired to get up and dance.

For those representing the Dementia Trust, it was a privilege to witness first hand the positive impact the concert had on everyone in the room. The smiles, laughter and an inspiring moment of shared enjoyment. 

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra's Music and Dementia programme has also included visits to Stratheden Hospital near Cupar, ensuring that people living with dementia in hospital have the opportunity to experience the uplifting power of live music. 

At the Dementia Trust, we believe that living with dementia means creating opportunities for connection and enjoyment. We are immensely proud to have supported this programme and grateful to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, its talented musicians, staff and volunteers for making it such a memorable success. 

We hope this will be the first of many opportunities to support similar concerts across Fife and beyond. By investing in projects like these, the Dementia Trust can continue helping people living with dementia, and those who care for them, experience the happiness that shared cultural experiences can bring.
