Long standing trustee retires

Dr Cesar Rodriguez became a trustee of the DSDT in 2003 and has been one of our longest serving trustees. We are therefore sad that he has stepped back from this role but happy for him because he is moving to live in his native Spain, as he has retired from working in NHS Scotland. Cesar has played a leading role in developing services for people with dementia throughout Scotland but especially in NHS Tayside where he was a consultant in psychiatry of old age and an Associate Medical Director. Nationally he helped shape the Scottish Government Dementia Strategy and worked closely with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Health Improvement Scotland.

Cesar was a regular presenter at DSDC conferences and study days, and a great support to the staff of the University of Stirling Dementia Centre.  He features in the video presentations on the DSDT website, with explanations of what to expect when being diagnosed with dementia. Furthermore, he fostered international links by supporting developing dementia services in Chennai, India, through developing training programmes and visits to Scotland supported by the Trust.  He wrote a Spanish translation of 10 Helpful Hints for Carers of People with Dementia, which he will distribute through contacts in Spain in his retirement.

The Trust is most grateful to Cesar for his invaluable contribution over many years. We wish him well in warmer climes and are glad he will stay in touch.
